“Good” and “bad” art are totally subjective, it’s all about what speaks to you. Personally, I’m drawn to art that feels alive, like the artist was touching into something real and meaningful instead of just following a set of rules.
I’ve seen plenty of paintings hailed as masterpieces that just feel…flat. They’re technically perfect, but they don’t have that spark of energy, that emotional connection that makes a piece truly engaging.
For me, art should be a soul-stirring experience, not just a lifeless representation of something. It should make you feel, think, and question the world around you. It should transport you to another place and time, even for just a moment.
Trying to define “good” art with a bunch of rigid rules is like trying to capture a lightning bolt in a jar. It just doesn’t work. Art is about freedom, expression, and pushing boundaries. It’s about connecting with something deeper within ourselves and sharing that with the world.
So, next time you’re looking at a piece of art, forget about what the “experts” say. Ask yourself, “Does this move me? Does it make me feel something?” If the answer is yes, then it’s good art – at least for you. And that’s all that really matters, isn’t it?
